Some time ago I gave a Votatu dot a try and wasn't happy with it. I don't remember my gripes, but do remember that I wasn't all that impressed. I believe companies can change and we've seen products improve over time with other companies, so when Votatu contacted me and offered the chance to try something else I chose the EMD 507-R.
What Is It? The Votatu EMD 507-R is an affordable ($169 on Amazon) enclosed-emmitter, RMS/c pattern, side-loading red dot with a multi-reticle system allowing the user to decide between a 3moa dot and/or a 54moa hashed circle.
Why it's interesting: My interest in the EMD 507-R from Votatu stem from:
Enclosed RMS/c optic
Forward-leaning shade hood protecting the glass, but more importantly reducing the amount of times sunlight will obstruct view through the optic.
Large buttons and no auto-adjust.
The 54moa hashed circle is of a usable size for bracketing real targets. 54moa is about 14" at 25 yards, 5.6" at 10yds. Those are usable bracketing sized for C-zone at 25yds and A-zone at 10yards. In contrast, the more-popular 30moa circles are only 7.8" at 25yds and 3.14" at 10 yards and serve more like a larger dot for general aiming than a system for bracketing.

The EMD 507-R is initially mounted on the troubled Alpha Foxtrot Attila for that gun's return to the range after manufacturer repair, but you can expect to see this dot on other revisits in the future as well.
