Weekly I am approached by companies asking for a review. It makes sense: for the cost of a product and shipping a company gets the word out about their product. I decline far more than I accept, waiting for something that looks like it might be worth my time and your interest. The Vision SE from Onnais is one that seemed worth our time.

What is it? The Vision SE from Onnais combines eye and hearing protection into a single unit with retractable ear plugs mounted to the side of the eye protection. Lenses are are easy to change between clear, smoke, and amber. The hearing protection comes with both flange and foam styles.

What Do They Cost? Here's where I think the Onnais Vision SEs are a real win. Eye and hearing protection in a case with multiple eye and ear options for $59.99. GBGuns readers have been offered a 15% discount when using this link. For as often as I end up scratching a lense, and as often as I wear eye and hearing protection this kit simply makes the most sense.

Is it any good? I've unfortunately learned to be suspicious of good produced in certain countries, and so wanted to dismiss Onnais as a company, but they advertise two very important ratings when it comes to protection: ANSI Z87.1+ and an NRR of 32db
ANSI Z87.1+ is a rating earned from US standardized testing for protection against the impact of flying debris; the very reason we wear eye protection when shooting. Jets of gasses, spall returning off a target, fragments of bullets from a neighboring bay, and parts detaching themselves from firearms are all things I've encountered over the years. Even when you're nowhere near the firing line little pieces of bullet jacket can fly quite a distance. I will not shoot in eyewear rated any less than ANSI Z87.1+
NRR is the Noise Reduction Rating in decibels. It can be something of a personal preference, but I'd rather strain to hear something than experience hearing damage and so always reach for the highest rating available. NRRs in the high 20s are acceptable, 32db is excellent.

What has my experience been? I've been using the clear lenses during the dark and wet winter months of the Pacific Northwest, so I can't speak to the visual clarity of the smoke lenses yet, but the clear lenses are very clear, and the multi-flange hearing protection that was pre-installed fits me very comfortably. My dislikes could perhaps be dismissed as personal preferences, but I found the ear pieces (arms of the eyewear) a bit hard after years of wearing higher-end eyewear. Were I to wear muffs over top it might get painful, but fortunately that's not needed with the Vision SE. My other critique is the shape or fit of the eyewear. Perhaps it was made for a different face shape and size than mine, but the eyewear sits very high on my fivehead (that's one larger than a normal forehead). The result is an unobstructed view of the world, but also eyewear that sits too high for a ball cap to be as low as I prefer to wear it.
