You don't see many weapon-mounted lights in GBGuns videos for a couple of reasons, but that doesn't mean I don't use them. They're not show in range videos mostly because I film in daylight and so one isn't needed. The other reason is because GBGuns is intended to document products and experiences so that you can make an informed deciscion, not influence you into thinking a firearms performs differently than it really does, or that the shooters on GBGuns are infallable experts (adding a weapon light is a quick trick to tame muzzle flip; making both the gun and shooter look better).

I believe weapon-mounted lights (WML) serve armed citizens best on home defense guns where, if needed, they can help positively identify threat from innocent at a moment's notice. The problem is in a market that also caters to law enforcement and live-action role players many lights are marketed for their strength. In a market where consumers also have little other than specs to go off of that seems to make shopping easier until you get the light home and realize that the same light that's excellent for identifying someone's eye color from across the WalMart parking lot is also blindingly bright in the house.

Your eyes, the color of the walls in your house, and size of your house all play into what's best for you. For me the challenge has been finding what's good enough for confidence without blinding myself.

Three LEDs allow the OLight PLX to serve as both a focused and flood beam.

The OLight PL X seems to be a good solution as it's effectively four lights in one. Flood or focused beam, high or low power. The choice is yours and however you program it is the way it stays so that the next time you turn it on there aren't any surprises.

Adding versatility to this is the way the switch work as both rockers and push-buttons so it can be used easily by fingers of different length on the same gun, or stil be used on guns without convenient rail locations.

OLight PL X switches both rock and can be pushed.
