The Canik METE MC9 line continues to expand, and this is the most anticipated model yet, at least for me. We started with the essential micro-compact MC9, got a longer barrel with the MC9L, then longer grip with the MC9LS. The MC9 Prime effectively treated the MC9LS to the same treatment as the SFX Rival, plus added en-vogue ports to the slide and barrel resulting what was almost a perfect carry unless one has trained enough to feel that ports on a defensive gun might not be a great idea.

...but ports are cool? Yes, influencers have done a great job of reminding us that ports exist and demonstrating how great they are at an outdoor range. There's good reason competitive shooters have used ports for decades. Ports on a carry gun however come with risk to the user. I've outlined those before in this video. There's more to it than just that. Canik smartly back-bored the barrel of the original MC9 Prime so that users wouldn't have to play the guessing game of if their ammunition was safe or not in a ported gun. The downfall of that is it meant even more velocity loss as the barrel was effectively only around 3". This meant anyone serious about their self defense would need specialy ammunition if they wanted a chance at proper velocity out of a 9mm for their hollow points to work.
By eliminating the ports on the Canik METE MC9 Prime NC we gain higher muzzle velocity, a gun more suitable for indoor and defensive shooting applications, and for those who prefer iron sights, a longer sight radius.

The Canik METE MC9 Prime NC is the fifth variant of MC9 reviewed by GBGuns, so I had a pretty good idea of what to expect on the range, but running off expectations wouldn't be journalism so we hit the range for the standard GBGuns range protocol:
Cold Shots: Truly our first shots through the gun.
Full Magazine +1: Suprisingly some modern guns still struggle with this. It's a test of how much play is in the magazine as well as how the slide cycles with pressure. This is also when I do my best to learn the trigger.
What's For Dinner™: A test to see what ammunition the gun will eat. Does the gun feed the round from slide lock, will it cycle and feed another round of the same type, does the slide lock to the rear on empty, and is there any notable point of impact change with different loads.

Sights & Trigger Control: on a 6" spinner target at a distance of 12-ish yards. We got this from Titan Great Outdoors and use it to gauge how learnable the trigger is and usable the sights are for forced, timed, precise shots.
Practical Accuracy: Five shots from a distance of seven yards at a one inch target. This isn't so much about printing a tight group as it is a culmination of the shooting experience and time for to collect thoughts prior to making a conclusion.

On the wet range we had a good time with the Canik METE MC9 Prime NC aside from the challenges of seeing subdued rifle targets through rain and fog. What impressed me most about shooting the gun in such unfriendly weather was how great the traction was. At no point did Anna or I feel that traction of control was a struggle. It's also interesting that when Anna and her husband first came to the range with me I brough the original MC9 Prime out with me and neither of them cared for it much, yet Anna enjoyed the MC9 Prime NC. We don't yet know if that's a matter of perspective changing or if the omission of ports made the gun more new-shooter friendly. We had intended to shoot both versions side by side for an additional video and to narrow in on her preference reasons, but as you could see the range was draining us more than it was rain water.
Now, aftert shooting all five MC9 models I can say that for me this is the one to get if you're looking for full-size capacity in a slim package (the 1.2" width is including the ambi slide levers) and need something shorter than a standard 4" barrel. Fit, finish, and user experience are all excellent with the Canik METE MC9 Prime NC.
