Bestie Defense units and practice canister

We've covered the intelligent need for something other than just lethal force before, but at GOA's GOALS 2026 Anna discovered a smart improvement upon the classic pepper spray: Bestie Defense.

In rose gold or flat black the Bestie Defense units are sleek and unassuming.

Pepper spray works, but not immediately. Law enforcement professionals have told me that regardless of the formula, it can take 30-90 seconds before someone sprayed changes their behavior. Anyone who's sparred or been in an emergency situation understands that it a long time in which a lot can happen. Bestie Defense goes beyond the spray with both an automatic 120db alarm and a pointed end.

The bottom edge is usable as a weapon which can collect DNA. Holes at the bottom of the Bestie Defense unit permit the 120db alarm sound to escape without the hand muffling it.

The alarm draws attention to what's going on and adds confusion to the attacker. The pointed end already in your hand from using the spray, is ready to be used to physically damage an attacker as well as collect some DNA for later use in prosecution.

The Bestie Defense unit disassembles easily for maintenance, to swap canisters, or to fly.

Bestie Defense is not a cheap throw-away product. The entire thing disassembles easily to replace the canister, change the formula, or replace batteries. An added bonus is this also means the unit can be made safe to fly for travel by removing the batteries and canister, and slipping the safety collar back on the canister.

Off camera, while trying to get a general feel for the spray I was at first alarmed by the shorter range and more-limited capacity of the $5 training cartridge compared to other brands I had tried. We reflected on this and realized it doesn't really matter. Individual use of pepper spray is not like a line of riot police standing ready already focused on target. Unfortunately most citizens don't have that much time or clarity of the situation and by the time they've retrieved their spray and taken aim the distance is much shorter, and certainly within the reach of Bestie Defense. From there, a quick burst of spray while the alarm sounds and point is ready to jab and collect DNA.
